- Bert953: #MrMarket seems to be fairly weak this morning. Snugged up stops and $AAPL $CRWD $COST $RSI $META got taken out to protect some meager profits. $TEM was already purged Friday. Just banging thru charts, I noticed that there are quite a few well known names languishing below the 50dMA. Others are just flirting with the 50. Of course there are many well above the 50 too, but it just struck me how many were below. As I write this, I see that $DIA $SPY and $QQQ gapped and crapped. Though the $SPY is hovering just above Friday's close. Interestingly, $IWM is well above the opening print and looks strongest for today. Since I'm not feeling the love, I'm gonna walk away.... - Bert953: @Mikev200 $COST me too. I was stopped out this morn. Obviously my stop was too tight. Shoulda been closer to the 8dMA. Still its well extended above the 50 and the current level is acting as R1 for the last 5 days. I am uncomfortable re-entering here, though all the indicators I normally view seem positive and every time I go to costco there's a million people in there and I can hardly find a park.
- Henry: #Lower_Priced_stocks I am advising a relative who has $20k to put in stocks. I was thinking of $5K in each of four Not looking for penny stocks, but it's disheartening for a newbie to have 4 shares of $COST or 7 shares of $AMZN I am open to suggestions
- phgruver: @Henry $COST $AMZN #Lower_Priced_stocks I can tell you what NOT to buy .... :-) For a small investment in the hands of an inexperienced trader, I'd recommend sticking to index funds. That eliminates single stock risk, and an investment in $SPY will never under perform the market.

Of course we missed that, but people can hit home runs with stocks, it's harder to do with ETF's, but I appreciate all input

But it's too far above the 50-day moving average for me to make this trade. I just question how much upside FROM HERE there is. Might work for aggressive traders though.

- Bert953: @DAN $COST yes, thanks for pointing out 50dMA. I was in the move from early Nov, but didnt get back in on the rebound above the 8dMA on 11/18. Though there was a week of consolidation from 11/22-12/2 I didnt like the entry being so late. Missed opportunity. Still $COST should do well going into Christmas. They are always crowded here in NY. In fact, they have new tech scanning members faces so an employee can verify the card's photo to the member at the entrance to catch non-members from sneaking in. They are serious about getting their member fees. Big Bro is certainly watching.... Holy 1984 Batman!

Then I overheard my wife talking with her sister about how they should stock up because of the Dock Strike. These stores may get an unexpected boost from the strike. long COST

- phgruver: @bigbartabs $COST $TPI Ever since 2020, we've made sure we are stocked ahead on TP. At that time, Canton, NC was a major producer of TP. Since then, though, the paper mills have been shut down (probably because of the EPA) and production outsourced. Part of that is good, because Canton was under 25 feet of water last weekend, but part of that is bad, because, now, the containers of TP are tied up in port because of the strike. Sometimes you just can't win....
